THE SOUNDTRACK: While listening to an album containing a few of Herrmann's film scores, the soundtrack for The Day the Earth Stood Still played. It hit me that since my approach to this project was as though it had been produced in the 50s or 60s, this music would be perfect for Lost Horizon. Of course, it would be impossible to use these specific tracks in our film. As rare as it is, there have been a few occasions where the music for a film was written before the film was shot. After some thought, I decided to contact Alex Mabeix with my unusual proposal. I suggested the creation of a score, using the tracks from The Day the Earth Stood Still, as an homage to Herrmann. Alex readily agreed. Next, I provided Alex the seven cuts and asked that he use the mood, tempo, and length of each track as the basis for the new tracks. A few weeks passed and I received an e-mail from Alex stating that he was unable to work on the score due to time constraints. What he did next showed his professionalism and integrity as an artist and human being. Rather than simply backing away from the project, Alex honored his original commitment. He passed the torch to his colleague and fellow composer Tanguy Follio. Hearing Tanguy's score, I was truly thrilled. In my estimation, he did a marvelous job. His work truly captures the essence of Bernard Herrmann. We are proud to have Tanguy Follio as a member of this creative team. To hear Tanguy's wonderful score for Lost
